Prints verses Reproductions

In the world of art there is a distinction between what is called a print and what is called a reproduction. That said AKAJakePrints.com uses the term print interchangeably with the term reproduction as is common usage.

What is the difference? Strictly speaking, any original work that is simply being copied into another medium is a reproduction not a print. Most of Jake's prints are in fact reproductions, NOT prints in terms of the strict art "print" definition.

In the strict art definition a print is a print, when the print itself is the final product: photographs are prints because the print is the final product of the process, as are lithographs, etchings, woodblock prints, silk screens, digital art etc. Ironically, prints in the strict art sense can carry an oxymoron sounding description "original print" to distinguish them from reproductions.

Remember AKAJakePrints.com uses the term print in the everyday sense of the word, not the strict art definition.
