Rainbird is an acrylic painting on loose canvas framed in a 2-inch wide cherry colored frame and matted in a 2-inch wide white mat to 27.5" X 21.5 inches. The FAR Tag  # is 2668. Rainbird is a primitive painting with distressed blue, black, white and gray colored pumice and gesso ground; archetypal figures of a rain goddess, thunderbird, and rainbird are lightly carved into the ground and then a clock wise spiral, wavy rain lines, leaves and hand stencil are layered on to convey the passage of time, implying hands through the ages have created this work.

Rainbird was conceived of quite some time ago. The thunderbirds are a common petroglyph archetype and I really felt like I need to go there eventually. I feel the cool tones of the work also help to convey this sensibility.-Jake
