Lightning

Lightning is an original acrylic painting on loose canvas. The work is 18 inches x 24 inches. In Lightning, by Jake Beckman, a black dragon takes wing in a thunderstorm with white lightning raining down. The predominant colors are black, purple and white. The Work is signed by the Artist, Jake,� in the lower right hand corner. The work is coated with a mat varnish to protect the delicate brush work. On the back of the work, the title and date of creation are noted in paint and the  FAR Tag  No. 2688 is placed in the region behind the signature. The work is federally copyrighted. All reproduction and publishing copyrights are retained by the artist. Images are not to be copied, re-distributed, imitated, derived OR otherwise used in any form without the explicit written permission of the artist.

I painted Lightning and the other 4 dragons in the Dragon Quartet, just because I haven't painted dragons in a while-I had a lot of fun doing them Apparently I had so much fun that when I was done one of my long-time collectors collected all four so they never hit the open market. There was a time when people said it wasn't a "Jake" if there wasn't a dragon, or unicorn or some other mythical creature in it. I enjoyed modeling creatures in my head, figuring out how their anatomy would go together and how the light would hit their forms if they really existed. This style of my dragons I call my European form - also have a type of dragon that is strongly influenced by Eastern images as well-they tend to be friendlier looking as opposed to the powerful elemental creatures portrayed here. I think my archetypal European dragons are derived from so-called Dragons of Eden - the image of the serpent as knowledge personified. -Jake
