Antarctic Under 30 inches x 40 inches acrylic painting. The
gallery wrapped canvas is painted to the exposed edge that it may be hung
without a frame.
FAR Tag #: 2660 Antarctic Under, by Jake Beckman, features
a penguin flying underwater beneath the floating Antarctic icepack. The
predominant colors are blue, white, black and just a touch of yellow and warm
brown.
I wanted to create an icy blue aerial painting I toyed with the idea of the
bird's-eye-view of glaciers, but I really couldn't think about what bird would
be flying above such a barren landscape. Then it came to me, not all landscapes
are viewed from above. I have often watched documentaries about people diving,
about people exploring the Antarctic continent and I was always intrigued by the
fish's-eye-view. I now envisioned a swimming emperor penguin and the ice fringe
as viewed from below and the result Antarctic Under. I have never seen March of
the Penguins, but I am told I should.-Jake
