Binary Birds, by Jake Beckman - art that proudly
projects you are member of the Social Media Tribe. "I do not even
possess the sport gene but in 2010, I knew all about the World Cup, Vuvuzelas,
the psychic octopus and all other things Soccer because of Facebook and Twitter.
Being tribal means I now follow sports."
Vuvuzelas is an original acrylic painting on gallery-wrapped
stretched canvas. The work is 11 x 14 x 3/4 inches. It is painted on the edges
so that it may be hung without a frame. Vuvuzelas, by Jake Beckman, is
about World Cup Championship Soccer. In 2010 all the chatter on the net was
about an obnoxious horn made famous at the South African games, a vuvuzela. As
folks searched to figure out what a vuvuzela was, it trended high on places like
twitter.com for weeks, becoming synonymous with the 2010 World Cup. In
Vuvuzelas, a yellow canary cavorts with a soccer ball, against a backdrop
of red vuvuzelas. The predominant colors are shades of red and yellow with
black, white, and touches of orange. The painting was started before Spain won,
so the colors are coincidental (or perhaps Jake was channeling the
same psychic vibe as
Paul the Octopus). In keeping with the Binary Birds social
media theme the canvas is overlaid with ASCII Binary reading "Vuvuzelas" The
work is signed by the artist, "Jake," in the lower right hand corner. On the
back of the work the title and date of creation are noted in paint; the
FAR Tag No. 17506 is placed in the
region behind the signature on the back of the canvas. A translation of the
ASCII Binary is also provided in the rolled over margin of the canvas on the
back. Inset images of back of the work, and the FAR tag itself, are shown on the
image of the work displayed in a room. The work is federally copyrighted. All
